Meet Our Team

Prentiss R. Smith, President and Portfolio Strategist, joined Prentiss Smith & Co. in 2002 after his graduation from Tufts University. He leads the investment research team and determines overall investment strategy. Mr. Smith passed the Uniform Investment Advisor Law Exam Series 65.

Prentiss C. Smith, Senior Advisor, founded Prentiss Smith & Company, Inc. in 1982.  Mr. Smith was born in Townshend, Vermont in 1952 and graduated from Middlebury College in 1978. Mr. Smith assists with investment research and is senior advisor on overall investment strategy. Mr. Smith passed the Uniform Investment Advisor Law Exam Series 65, the Uniform Securities Agent State Law Exam Series 63 and the General Securities Exam Series 2.  He has served as a board member or trustee of many local organizations including the New England Youth Theatre, Brattleboro Music Center and the Social Banking Fund at Vermont National Bank (now part of People’s United Bank).

Frederick Brubaker, CFA, Director of Research, joined the equity research team in 2007.  Mr. Brubaker graduated from Middlebury College in 2004 with a B.A. in International Politics and Economics with a minor in Chinese.  He formerly worked as an analyst with InterChina Consulting in Shanghai, China. He is fluent in Mandarin.

Karlie Borst, Chief Compliance Officer, has been employed by Prentiss Smith and Company since 1993.  Mrs. Borst obtained her A.S. in Business from the Community College of Vermont in 1998. She is the head trader, compliance officer, and comptroller for the company.  She passed the Uniform Investment Advisor Law Exam Series 65.

Laurie Barrett, Director Client Relations, leads client relations and new business development for the company, and spends time meeting with clients and reviewing the performance of their portfolios. Mrs. Barrett obtained her A.S. in Business from Champlain College in 1991. She has been employed by Prentiss Smith and Company since 2007, and formerly worked for a pension consulting firm.  She passed the Uniform Investment Advisor Law Exam Series 65.

Penny Kaufman, Client Relations, has been employed by Prentiss Smith & Company since 1999.  Mrs. Kaufman graduated from Chelsea College, University of London, England in 1985 with a B.S. in Environmental Biology.  She handles client  service for the Brattleboro office.  She passed the Uniform Investment Advisor Law Exam Series 65.

Cindy Olson, Client Relations, has been employed by Prentiss Smith & Company since 2017.   Mrs. Olson obtained her A.S. in Accounting from Champlain College in 1990.  She handles client services and database management for the company and formerly worked as Vice President and Human Resources Manager for a local, independent bank.

Halie Lange, Research Assistant, has been employed by Prentiss Smith & Company since 2017.   Ms. Lange obtained her B.S. in Environmental Chemistry from Bates College in 2017.  She assists the equity research team and formerly worked as an Environmental Scientist for an environmental consulting firm in Maine.

Gertrude Walker, Client Relations, has been employed by Prentiss Smith & Company since 1989.  Ms. Walker graduated from Bradford College in 1964 with an A.A. in History. She passed the Uniform Investment Advisor Law Exam Series 65 and the General Securities Representative Examination Series 7.
